Chapter 100

Jasper’s POV

Dark Savage pack

Well s**t, I did not see that coming. Earlier today Stephanie and I were both at death’s door. Now that they knew what was going on, and getting the correct treatment, we both felt a great deal better. I assumed that I would be able to do my Alpha duties, just by myself, by tomorrow. I am not so sure what is about to happen now. I could hear the whole conversation coming from Stephanie’s room next door. I was really surprised when I heard Cassidy going off on Stephanie. Why would she be out here? Why is she running around my pack free if she actually had tried to kill me and Stephanie? She killed two she-wolves for the Goddess’s sake. I already know that this will NOT be going well for me already, just knowing that she was with them in the hallway. I also couldn’t believe that they had recorded Stephanie in there. I was surprised at the large amount of money she stole from Ever Green. They should have caught onto that much faster than they did. Or maybe they were just biding time until Percy found his mate, as they really put stock in mates at Ever Green, and in the Wright family.

I looked around my room once I heard about their recording, and I had already decided that I would not be handing it to them like Stephanie did. But really, she excels in not thinking things through. There is only one thing she is good for, or at, and thinking is not it. I am glad that she is out of my hair now, she has overstayed her welcome, and I was glad to see my Beta with them in the hallway. He had not been speaking, but I am sure that he will be helping me out here. I am sure that they are coming to me next, they started with the easy one. I still have the poison in my system so I still can’t mindlink, but I know that he is a loyal and good man. I watch with sparkling eyes as they go from her door to mine. I am looking forward to the battle of wits with them. They will not have such an easy time with me, I won’t be getting tricked like she did. I didn’t see a camera or any equipment that shouldn’t be in here. I have been resting periodically throughout the day, so it is possible that they could have come in here earlier while I was sleeping to set it up.

I can tell that the plan was for them to gang up on me. I smiled in greeting and sat up straight in the bed. “What’s up?” I asked them, to try to be funny. I don’t want them to think that I am worried about anything, at all.

“We would like to speak to you Alpha Jasper” Council Leader Miller said, and I nodded to him. I got a great idea and then said, “Yes, I would be happy to talk to you” with a smirk on my face and then gave a laugh.

“What is so funny Alpha Jasper?” Leader Miller asked.

“Oh, I was making sure that if it is only an audio recording in here, you would still have my consent noted on it,” I told them and then allowed my smirk to grow bigger, as I laid back on my hospital bed to show them that I wasn’t worried in the least.

“Oh, you don’t have to worry about that Alpha Jasper, we are doing audio, AND video in here. You are all good, whichever way you decide to respond” Leader Miller told me, effectively wiping the smile off my face. They weren’t playing around with whatever was about to happen in here. I guess this is an intervention or something. Maybe they will threaten me. I don’t even remember all the workers who were in and out of here today. That hidden camera could be anywhere, and I believe them. Suddenly this is a lot less fun. I will need to keep guarded and think before I speak, as they clearly have an agenda in here, and I am not just going to hand it to them. I will make them work for whatever it is that they want to try to get me for.

“OK, shoot, what do you want to know?” I said and then noticed Peyton in the hallway, with Percy holding her around her waist. I can’t resist it and said, “Peyton, I have two chairs in here, do you want to come in here and sit down?”

“Sure, thanks for the offer,” Percy said and walked in holding Peyton’s hand and pulled the chair nearest the bed back over to the wall and then sat down, she then sat in his lap. I know he is trying to get a reaction out of me, but I have an even better view now, so I keep my gaze on her. She is more stunning now as a woman than she had been as a young teen. She looked similar to her brother Bryson’s coloring with her blond hair from her mother, and her father’s green eyes. She looks very much like her mother, and she is gorgeous. I will ask her if she is willing to stay here. I know she is marked and mated, but I am still a very attractive man that is willing to give her absolutely anything to keep her here. That works for a lot of women, so it should work for her too. I heard throats being cleared, and I look towards the door, “I am sorry. What were you saying?” I said to them in my most charming tone.

“We wanted to ask you about the attempted k********g of Peyton Hunt from the B***d Claw pack. We have information that it was you behind it, and we wanted to discuss that with you. You know that it was a serious crime. We need to get this worked out” Leader Miller said to me.

I glanced over to Peyton and give her one of my patented smiles before answering, “I do not recall being involved in that at all. Refresh my memory, when was that again? I do remember her disappearing, and then hearing of her untimely death. Which I am glad to see was just a vicious rumor. I am so glad that you have returned from the dead, Peyton” I told her, and I heard Percy, her father, and Heath all start growling at me for what I said.

“That is incorrect, Jasper. I smelled them when they came to the B***d Claw pack to try to take me. They smelled like this pack, you know that each pack has a scent associated with them, and that is how you know when someone is trespassing in your pack. There is no mistake, I was close enough to see and smell them. I also picked out all four of their pictures from your missing member’s folders in your office. They were all identified as being your men, including your best tracker, and your Beta. With all noted as having gone missing on the same date as the incident at B***d Claw. You can stop lying now, Jasper, and just admit it. They were killed trying to take me and were still members of the pack when they died. I scented them, Jasper, I know that they were sent to get me” Peyton tells me, and then leans away from me, towards Percy.

“Well, if they did that, they did it on their own. I would never have ordered something like that to be done. I would be too worried about King Sebastian coming after ME for it, and I don’t need that kind of heat from the Alpha King. He had already shut me down when I asked for your hand after I met you as a teenager. I always knew that you would do great things” I told her with a proud smile.

“You wanted me for my power. You saw me use it, and you wanted to get me to try to become the next Alpha King” Peyton said, and she cut straight to the chase. I was surprised that she had figured that out.

“You are mistaken little one, but if you did want to stay here at Dark Savage, I would be happy about it. I really wouldn’t mind re-marking you, and mating with you. I know that you would help me have strong pups” I said to her. This time the room rang out with growls. Making my smile bigger, this is an easy room to lead.

“You are not my mate, Jasper. You know that I have a mate. I will not be staying here with you, no matter what. You do not deserve my time or my attention. You really think that you, Alpha Jasper, are smarter than the rest of the men here with me?” Peyton’s laughter lit up the room and made me laugh too until I realize what she said. I am not stupid, I have admitted nothing to them, and I won’t be admitting anything that would make me look bad, or guilty.

“Look you seem like a sweet girl, but I wasn’t involved in it if they were even there. I can’t even remember their names now, it has been so long ago. I always thought that they found a better offer at another pack. I had nothing at all to do with whatever it was that they were doing. You have my word on it. I know it may look suspicious, but I didn’t tell them to do anything. Especially not to you” I tell them. I keep my serious face on to show them that I am being totally transparent with them.

“You are right, Jasper, it is very suspicious. They leave Dark Savage one day, for whatever reason, and drive an hour to get to B***d Claw. Then end up dying on B***d Claw’s packland, after attacking the Security detail guarding Peyton, and Luna Victoria. Not only did Peyton see them, and can verify that they died there, but she also smelled their scents and knew that they were trespassing there at B***d Claw. Additionally, we contacted Alpha James, and Beta Mitchell from B***d Claw. They also stated and are willing to testify that the men that Peyton picked out of the missing folder, were the men that they found dead in their pack, and they were the reason that the women died. So, you can cut the lies now Jasper. You felt them die that day. You should know that when a pack member dies, for whatever reason, you feel the bond break with them. I bet you gave up after hearing that she had died in the attack, not realizing that she was still alive” King Sebastian said to me.

Shit, that was a slip-up. I did forget about that. I don’t lose members that often. I had felt it when we tried to ambush their convoy as they were leaving from B***d Claw. It had been several years before that when I had last felt the pain of losing a member of my pack last. I was still recovering from being shot, I was in pain, and I had forgotten about losing those pack members. It does hurt to lose your members. I am kicking myself for forgetting that. I should have changed the f*****g dates too, That was another mistake that I made, and I hate that I had left breadcrumbs for anyone to find.

“It was a long time ago, they very well may have died. If I didn’t note it, I just guess I didn’t have that information to note in the file. I wasn’t that close to those men. I am sorry that they clearly all went rogue and tried to attack Peyton, and those women, or whatever they were doing there. I just wasn’t involved in it, I can’t control what other’s go off and do of their own accord. I don’t know what you are talking about. I am sorry. I am tired now, please allow me to rest and we can try again tomorrow” I told them. But I am going to have my Beta and warriors make them leave. I will not be getting questioned again.

“I am sorry, we know you are tired, we only have a few more questions Alpha,” Lead Miller said to me.

“Fine” I snapped at him and tried to get more comfortable. I am sick of them, and this whole being questioned thing.

“So how did you know where to go to find Peyton? You remember, when you attacked our convoy and were shooting at us” Alpha Heath asked.

“I just happened to come upon you guys, it was a coincidence,” I told them. I am only going to start doing yes or no answers. I can see them trying to lead me somewhere and I am worried about getting cornered.

“With more men than we had, and way more firepower too. Wow, that really was a coincidence” Heath said, and then started to laugh.

“It is Heath. It was really lucky on their part. But what if I told you there was another reason, what would you say to that Jasper?” King Sebastian said.

“What would that be?” I asked them, rolling my eyes to show how dumb I thought this whole process was going to be.

“Her name was Fallon, the girl who came by here to stop and visit you by the way. The one you paid $20,000 dollars to for information on Peyton told us. It is on record and can be proven, as she was caught the other day, and her sentence, as well as her mate’s sentence carried out. She admitted that she was the one who told your Beta where Peyton was back 6 years ago. You remember, the Beta who was killed at B***d Claw trying to kidnap Peyton. She told us that you were really interested in getting Peyton and were glad to give her the money. She knew you were the one who had them out looking for Peyton back then and wanted to try to get them some starter money. Her mate was also on record as admitting that he had driven her here and that she had a large amount of money on her that she told him that she got from you. She just didn’t tell him why you gave it to her until much later” Leader Miller told Jasper.

“I don’t know what you are talking about. We just happened to come across your convoy. I had been told that Peyton was being held against her will at Ever Green. I was trying to help her get back to her mate. I had heard from Timothy James that he was her true mate when he called here looking for her after she left B***d Claw. I was just being a good friend. I had no idea what had happened and that I had been lied to” I told them. I need to make sure I keep my answers short, or I am going to get caught up here in my lies. I looked at Cameron, my Beta, and wanted to mindlink him to keep his mouth shut about whatever I said, but I still can’t link anyone.

“Really, Jasper? Why would she lie to us about that? I really have to tell you that it doesn’t make any kind of sense either. She knew that she was going to be put to death, but instead of just trying to get away as fast as she could, she comes here, to you, instead of trying to get to safety. You must really think that we are all idiots, Jasper. That makes no sense at all. That fight-or-flight instinct is a strong one. She had just escaped B***d Claw. She knew that she was going to be hunted down. Do you think that she is just going to hang out in the vicinity of the pack she is running for her life from, for no reason? You need to come up with something better than that. No one here believes it” Leader Miller said and is shaking his head like he cannot believe I would say something like that.

“Well, I never saw her. If she had come here, she must have spoken to someone else. I don’t know what to tell you other than that. Maybe someone else here is after Peyton. You need to be careful who you listen to, I wouldn’t take warrior’s and guard’s words for anything” I told them and then turned my head to look out the window. I no longer wanted to talk to any one of them. I just want my Beta and Gamma back me up. This is a complete travesty, I am an Alpha. I deserved to be respected, especially in my own pack. I can throw Heath, Gabi, Tanner, and Percy out of my pack. But the Alpha King’s family can’t be kicked out, and neither can the Council members. I start thinking of what I can do to make this whole thing disappear.

“Now that is weird, Jasper. We have two eyewitnesses to seeing that meeting happen at your gates. They both were interviewed separately, and they both stated that you were indeed present and had made the deal with Fallon. There is no mistake. The statements are similar, but not the same, with the same basic information given from their different perspectives and experience at that time. We have already gotten their testimony on record, and their statement forms are already filled out. You can stop lying at any time unless it is just impossible for you to be able to tell the truth. I think you struggle with telling the truth” Alpha Heath said to me.

“I know that he is lying” we heard a voice say from the back of the group.
