Sophia's Revenge -
Sophia’s Revenge – Chapter 108
Kane’s POV
I couldn’t move. Clarissa had shown up and said she was pregnant when we tried to take her to the cells. How could I do this? Sophia had ordered her to the hospital but to be guarded at all times. I know things are still going on around me, but it was like something rooted me to the spot on the ground. How could I be so careless? How could I do this to Sophia? Xander will never forgive me, and we will never get our relationship back.
“Kane, snap out of it, man. We will figure this out.” River mind linked me.
“Did you smell it on her?”
“I didn’t get close enough.”
I had to do something. Everyone was helping around me, and I was still just standing there. I surveyed everything around me, and that’s when I saw that this wasn’t over yet. Someone had their jaws around Sophia’s neck. It was one of King Jags’ men. I had to stop him. I hoped he thought I was still on their side. I walked over to Xander, and he was frozen, not moving a single inch of his body. If he attacked this wolf, Sophia would die. He would rip her throat out. Xander was shooting daggers at me as I got close.
“Release her now!” I roared at this wolf. He kept his jaws locked around her. She was limp and lifeless.
I shifted into my wolf so I could try to communicate with him.
“You need to release her now.”
He just shook his head at me.
“This is over. He is dead. Release her!”
He just bared his teeth at me as he kept his jaws on her. I had to think fast. He wasn’t going to release her.
“If you don’t release her, you will die. Don’t you value your life?”
He just kept his deadly grip on her.
“You’re running out of time. You are going to die if you don’t release her.”
He didn’t answer and started to increase the pressure on her neck. I could see he had penetrated her skin. I had to link Xander to see if he had any thoughts.
“Xander, what can we do?”
“I don’t know. I can’t tackle him because it will kill her.”
“I know I tried talking to him, and he won’t release.”
As we were both just staring at them, trying to figure out how to get him off her, we were all hit with bright lights and flew back. When everything cleared, the wolf who had Sophia was lying on the ground, and Sophia was next to him. I could see b***d pooling out of her neck. I ran over to her and clasped my hands around her neck, trying to stop the bleeding.
Xander was about a second behind me, and he killed the wolf that hurt her and then was at our side.
“We need to get her to the hospital.” He roared.
“I know, but she is bleeding so much.”
“I just mind-linked, doc. He is on his way. Keep the pressure on her neck.”
The b***d was pouring out of her, regardless of how hard I tried to stop it. I needed something besides my hands, but we had all shredded our clothes when we shifted.
“Xander, I need something to put on her neck beside my hands.”
“I don’t have anything. Keep trying.”
A circle had formed around us with the people who were remaining out here trying to clean up. Those who knew her were crying, and those that didn’t were whispering. I could hear Doc at the edge of the circle trying to get through, but I didn’t have to say anything because Xander yelled at them all to move. He put so much force behind it that they all fell to their knees, submitting to him. Doc finally made his way over to us.
“What the hell happened?”
“A wolf got a hold of her neck. Please, you have to save her.”
He sat down next to me. He opened his bag and pulled out packets of gauze and opened them, and put on a pair of gloves.
“OK, when I say you remove your hands. I need to get a look at what we’re dealing with, and then we will see how we can stabilize her before we move her.”
I just nodded my head at him and waited for his signal. He was opening more supplies. Xander had come and knelt down beside us and was holding her hand.
“OK, Kane, let go.”
I removed my hands, and b***d sprayed everywhere. It covered both mine and Doc’s faces before he got gauze over it. I could tell that he was mind-linking someone.
“Doc, you better tell me what is going on?” Growled Xander.
“She has some pretty extensive damage on her neck. I won’t know the extent of it until we can get her to the hospital. I have nurses on their way with more supplies and a gurney. We are going to get her on it so we can transport her there and keep the pressure.”
He just nodded at him, and we all waited in silence for the nurse to come. Someone had come and removed the group that was gathered around us. It was now just us. We all just stared at her in silence, not knowing what to say.
“River, please tell me she will be, ok?”
“I don’t know, man, but we can’t lose mate. We love her.”
“I know, buddy. We will do everything we can.”
The nurses finally showed, and Doc had ordered both Xander and me back while they worked on her. We were both standing on each side of her. I knew he was over there blaming me. It’s what I would do. If she doesn’t live, I will take my son and leave. We will never be welcome here anymore.
I don’t know what they were doing to her, but it wasn’t good. They were all covered in b***d, and she was looking paler and paler. She had lost so much b***d. I don’t know if she can recover from this. They were finally lifting her onto the gurney. Once they had her on the gurney, Doc got up and straddled her so he could continue to hold pressure. Xander and I both helped push the gurney to the hospital, and once we were there, they rushed her through the doors where we couldn’t go.
The second they were gone from our view, Xander was on top of me. I knew this was coming. I knew he would blame me. Fists were flying, and I was defending myself, but Jax had taken control, and I knew he could end me if he wanted to.
“Get off me, Xander. I did everything I could to protect her.”
“No a*****e, you just stood there after Clarissa made her announcement. You brought this pack to us. You led them here.”
“He knew where you were already, and he played me. He is dead now. You need to trust me. I did everything I said I would.”
“If she dies, it is on you.” He roared as he walked to the other side of the waiting room.
I went and sat down and was by myself as I saw Xander’s family walk in and some of the Alpha’s that were here to help. I felt helpless and guilty. If I had never been killed, I wouldn’t be here right now. I wouldn’t be without a family. My own brother barely talks to me. I only ever wanted a family and people to love, and I had that, and it was ripped away from me. It wasn’t my fault, but Xander couldn’t get past that, and he really couldn’t get past where I ended up.
“Kane, please come sit with us.” Luna Caroline said. I didn’t even realize that she had walked over to me.
“Thank you, but I think it is better if I stay here.”
She didn’t say anything else, just reached down and grabbed my hand, and dragged me over there. I just kept my head down. I didn’t want to start another fight.
“You are not welcome here. You need to leave now.” Xander spat at me as I sat there.
“Xander, you are out of control. He is Sophia’s mate as well, and he used to be your best friend. He can stay here. Either you be nice, or you can leave.” Luna Caroline said.
He didn’t say anything more, just stared at the wall while we waited. It seemed like with every hour that passed, more tension filled the room. People came and went, but Xander and I never left our seats. His parents also stayed put, making sure we didn’t start to fight again.
After six hours, the doc walked out. He was covered in b***d. Sophia’s b***d. I could smell that it was hers. He looked exhausted. He slowly walked over to us. As he got closer, his face was grim, and he had news he didn’t want to tell us. By the time he was standing in front of us, I was crying. I couldn’t hold my emotions in anymore.
“Boys, she is alive for right now. Let’s go talk in my office, and then you can go to her room.”
We all got up and followed him to his office and piled in, waiting to hear what he had to say. Xander’s parents had also come in with us. I watched as Doc walked behind his desk and took a seat. He let out a big sigh before he began to talk.
“The injury that she sustained would typically kill most humans, and a lot of times, it would kill one of us as well. Kane was fast with applying pressure to her neck. I am sure that is the only reason she is alive. She had severed arteries, and also, her vocal cords were damaged, along with the primary structure of her neck. I have repaired as much as I could.”
I was full-on crying now. My choices led to this. If I had chosen differently, I could have been here the whole time and not led them right to her.
“Is she going to be OK Doc?” Luna Caroline asked.
“To be completely honest, I don’t know. She lost so much b***d, and her injuries were severe, and her wolf isn’t healing her right now. I am guessing the fight caused her to deplete her energy, and her wolf is also trying to heal.”
Xander jumped up out of his chair and was on top of me as soon as Doc stopped talking. He had me pinned to the ground and had his hands around my throat. He was squeezing so tight I couldn’t breathe and was seeing spots quickly. I was tired of fighting him and just let him do what he needed. Maybe he would feel better after he beat me, or maybe he would kill me. If he killed me, I would be done with this hell that I was currently living through. I could see people trying to pull him off me, but they were unsuccessful. His wolf had taken completely over and was fueled by emotions.
The spots were getting bigger, and blackness was starting to fade in around me. I was going to welcome it. As long as Sophia was safe and protected, I could die knowing that she would have a happy life and not us two assholes constantly fighting. The blackness finally consumed me, and I couldn’t hear anything anymore.
