Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 487
The hospital was still pretty busy, even though some people had left.
In Coleen's room, she told her son, "Go see Mia's baby, and don't go empty-handed. Buy a gift for the baby, as a welcome gesture."
Chad understood these social niceties well. He had bought a gift in the morning, but it was too crowded to give it. So, he came back in the afternoon.
He pulled out a box and handed it to Mia.
"Chad, what did you get for him?" Mia asked curiously.
Chad gently touched the baby's soft skin, his eyes lighting up with joy. "Since you call me 'bro', as an uncle, I should give my newborn nephew a little something."
Mia accepted the gift with a smile. "I'll take it on my son's behalf. Thanks, Chad."
By around ten that night, the room was finally empty.
Madison stayed at the hospital with her daughter, while Andre went to see off the last guests.
When he returned, he pulled out several envelopes from his coat and handed them to Mia. "These are from Xiaobai, Ayan, Nangong, and Master Xi for the baby. Keep them safe."
Mia held the thick stack of envelopes, her eyes practically turning into dollar signs. "I wonder how much this is."
Madison warned her, "This is for Henry. Don't be greedy with your kid's money."
Mia glanced at her mom with a sly smile. "Mom, how about I share some with you, and you keep it a secret?"
Madison laughed, "Don't try to bribe your mom."
Mia looked at the little one lying at the end of the bed. She leaned over her son, carefully observing the baby she had just given birth to. He looked much better after being cleaned up, all chubby and cute. Every time the little guy saw Mia, he'd smile, but when he saw Andre, he'd be quiet for a long time.
"Come count the money," Madison called out, eyeing the envelopes and gifts under the baby's crib.
Upon hearing about money, Mia immediately lost interest in the baby.
She got off the bed and went to the crib, looking at the cart full of gifts. "Wow, there are so many perks to having a baby."
The little guy, who had just been able to see his mom, suddenly found her gone. His face scrunched up, and his mouth opened wide, ready to unleash a heart-wrenching wail.
Andre watched his wife's back, shaking his head with a smile. Then he went to the bed and picked up his son.
"Wu en ah, ah ah, ah, wa ah."
This time, even being held by his dad didn't work; he wanted the somewhat unreliable mom in sight.
Andre had no choice but to carry his son to his wife.
Seeing Mia, Henry's eyes filled with tears, looking pitifully at his mom. It was heartbreaking.
"Don't cry, mom's counting money," Mia said, picking up another envelope.
The baby continued to wail loudly.
"Okay okay, for the sake of you just being born, I'll hold you while I count."
Mia reluctantly took her son and carefully walked step by step to the bed, where her blanket was scattered with envelopes and gifts.
At eleven o'clock, four people-Molly, Leo, Anya, and Cooper-met by chance at the door to the hospital room.
Molly looked at Leo and Anya, and Anya looked at Cooper.
"Looks like we're all pretty smart," Molly said, breaking the ice.
Leo asked, "Did you come this morning?"
Molly nodded. "I did, but I was treated like a 'rare animal' and stared at for two hours, so I escaped. What about you guys?"
The three shook their heads simultaneously. Anya said, "Little Chad said to wait until the evening when no one is fighting over the baby."
Cooper added, "I waited till my dad left in the evening, then I knew it was safe." And so he came.
Molly commented, "We are indeed a group of wise friends."
When they pushed open the door to the delivery room, they saw Mia holding the baby in one hand and counting money with the other. "Thirty-nine, forty, forty-one..."
The newborn had just finished his bottle and turned his head curiously to watch his mom flipping through the banknotes.
Anya held a lunch box in her hand. "Auntie, I made you some nourishing soup. You just gave birth; you should drink some to replenish your energy."
Mia put down the money and looked at the newcomers with surprise. "Great, finally some familiar faces! I didn't recognize anyone who came during the day."
The little guy heard the voices and turned his head to look around.
"Baby, let your aunt hold you and give you a kiss," Molly said, immediately going to the side of the little one.
Mia held her son at an angle for the four to see.
Molly was the first to touch. She poked the little one's cheek. "Wow, this is what baby skin feels like."
Mia slapped her friend's finger. "Be gentle! Don't deform my son's face. It took me ten months to give birth to him; it wasn't easy."
Molly retorted, "Your kid is made of play-dough, deforming at a touch?"
Mia handed her son to her best friend. "If you don't believe me, hold him. Even play-dough is harder than him."
Madison and Andre were speechless.
Molly nervously made an 'o' with her mouth as she took the little treasure, looking at the little one blinking curiously at the world. "Sweetie, don't be scared. Your aunt has held babies before. I won't drop you, you can trust me." The little one: "...."
Madison was scared. She quickly went over and held her grandson. "Molly, you better give the baby to me. Mia, walk carefully with Henry, take small steps."
The other three looked enviously at Molly, who successfully held the baby. Leo went over. "Aunt, let me hold him."
Anya's lunch box was taken by Andre, who was ladling soup for his wife, cooling it down for her to drink.
Anya also went over. "Auntie, me too. I haven't had a good look at the baby."
Cooper extended his hands. "Molly, come on, my generation is higher; it's my turn."
After everyone had a turn holding the baby, they all had their fill. Finally, when the little guy was about to cry, he landed back in his dad's arms. The tears that were about to squeeze out disappeared. Mia, holding the soup that Anya brought, started drinking. "I'm telling you, Anya, your aunt is willing to invest in your restaurant. Your aunt is rich now. How about opening a grand restaurant for you?"
Leo interjected, "Just drink your soup and stop talking. Anya's cooking is a hobby, not a future career."
Jade argued, "Yo, who are you to make decisions for Anya?"
Leo retorted, "None of your business. Go find your Chad. He'd be more than happy to deal with you!"
Upon hearing Chad's name, Andre slightly raised his eyebrows, looking at the arguing pair.
Only Andre's son, in his arms, kept his gaze on his mom, who was eating on the bed. He blinked his eyes, watching his mom drink the soup, licking his upper lip as if he was hungry.
After a bit of commotion in the hospital room, Molly reached into her bag as she prepared to leave, pulling out a gift for Mia. "This is for my nephew, so no swiping!"
Leo also fished out a present. "Mia, if you dare to nab this, we're gonna have a problem."
Cooper plucked out a box and tossed it onto Mia's bed. "Everyone seems to know the kind of person my sister is, huh?"
Anya pulled a small charm bag from her pocket, placing it on the bedside table. She immediately clarified, "Aunt Mia, my gift isn't expensive, really, it's not. You wouldn't be interested." Mia blinked. Would anyone believe her if she were to defend herself at this moment?
