The Blood Moon Twins
Chapter 116

REMY

conscious.

When Draven finished taking my blood, I felt queasy. Between the blood I lost from my wound and the amount he had taken, my head was spinning, making it even harder to focus than it was before. I had to close my eyes and take a few breaths to even stay "Now that that's done, it's time to take care of some other business," Draven announced. He snapped his fingers and said, "Bring her in."

The door opened, and Julie was pulled into the room by a woman with blonde hair. She practically threw Julie into the room before turning on her heels and storming out. Julie stumbled for a few feet before she finally caught her balance. She quickly brushed her clothes off and straightened them out to help her look more presentable.

"That woman always has such an attitude towards me," Julie complained. "She should treat me better. Does she not know how important I am?"

Draven shook his head. He felt no sympathy for Julie, but she didn't seem to notice. "I'll make sure she understands just how important you are." Draven sounded like he was trying to be nice and helpful, but based on what he had just told me, he wasn't going to keep Julie around now that he had what he wanted from her.

Julie walked over to Draven and wrapped her arms around his arm. "I knew you would put her in her place for me."

I couldn't understand how Julie could look at this man and be completely blinded by how terrible he was. I knew he was her mate, but he was doing nothing to show her affection in return. Could she not see that his gaze held nothing but contentment for her? "How could you turn on our pack like this?" Harper demanded. "How could you turn your back on Remy after she risked her life to save yours? I knew you were stupid, but I didn't think you were this stupid."

Julie clenched her jaw. "Shut up. Why do you think you're so important? I'm the one who is special in this room!"

"The only thing special about you is that you're completely delusional," Harper snapped back. "Can't you see that he's just using you? He doesn't care about you in the slightest."

"That's enough out of you." Draven's deep voice cut through the room, completely silencing Harper. Even Julie seemed to tense.

"Thank you," Julie said, acting completely exasperated. "Why is she still here anyway? I thought you were going to take care of her."

Draven smirked. He pulled out a dagger from his back pocket and held it in front of him. "That's why you're here."

My eyes widened when I saw the dagger flicker in the dark. "You promised you wouldn't hurt her!"

"I'm not breaking our agreement," he said simply. He pushed the dagger into Julie's hands. "I won't be hurting her."

Julie tensed as she held the blade. She looked at Draven with desperation. "This wasn't part of the deal. I was supposed to bring you Remy, and you were supposed to take care of her for me."

Draven moved behind Julie and wrapped his arms around her. He forced her fingers to tighten around the dagger before whispering, "I am handing her to you on a silver platter, and I'm giving you the tools you need. I trust you can be a good girl and take care of her."

Julie swallowed hard and nodded along. She looked scared, but she wasn't saying no at the same time.

"And when you're done, just knock on the door, and I'll let you out of here." Draven pulled back from Julie and walked towards the door. "Just a reminder. Don't touch Remy. She's mine. And don't disappoint me."

He left the room, locking it behind him. Julie looked down at the weapon in her hand, and her face seemed to pale. There was hesitation in her eyes, and I needed to use that to my advantage. I couldn't let Julie try to kill Harper just because Draven was manipulating her. I needed to try to get Julie to see the truth before she did something she would regret.

I let go of the rope around my hands and let it fall to the ground now that Draven wasn't here. There was still a rope around my chest, holding me against the pillar, but it wasn't very tight, and I was pretty sure I would be able to slip under it if it came down to it. If words failed, I could try to fight Julie. I was still in a weakened state, but the wolfsbane was affecting Julie, too. It leveled the playing field just a little.

"You don't have to do this," Harper said, keeping her voice steady. I was sure she could feel Julie's hesitation as well. Julie never liked to get her hands dirty, which was why she probably asked Draven to deal with Harper for her. Hopefully, Julie wouldn't be able to go through with attacking Harper, even though she was being manipulated by Draven. She didn't seem like the murdering type.

"You embarrassed me in front of everyone," Julie said, still staring at the dagger in her hands. "You took Caulder away from me, and everyone thinks you're so perfect."

"People don't think I'm perfect," Harper said. "In fact, I'm not even one of the popular girls. People only know who I am because I'm always hanging around Caulder, and my mom is the beta. People don't think I'm perfect."

"Caulder does." Julie looked up and took a few steps towards us. "I see the way he looks at you. It's like you are the heaven and the earth to him. Why do you get someone who looks at you like that, and I don't?"

I could feel Julie's pain. A part of her knew that Draven didn't want her the way she wanted to be wanted.

"There's still time to find that," I quickly said. "But if you hurt Harper, you are crossing a line you can't come back from."

"I do have that," Julie shouted, swinging the dagger in the air. "I have Draven. He's my mate. He loves me." She was contradicting herself, and I didn't know if she was trying to convince us or herself.

"He doesn't though," I said. I knew this wasn't something Julie wanted to hear, but she needed to see the truth.

"He's my mate," she repeated, but this time she wasn't as confident.

"I'm sure you feel that way, but vampires don't have mates," I explained. "When Blade first told me that, I had been terrified that he would just change his mind one day, but the connection I felt with him only grew stronger each day. He isn't obligated to be my mate, and Draven isn't obligated to be yours." "Blade is your mate, and he looks at you the way Caulder looks at her." Julie was starting to get agitated. I had to tread lightly, because if I pushed her too far, I had no idea what she was capable of.

"He doesn't feel the mate bond the way I do, though," I explained. "He fell in love with me, which is something you can find with time." I wasn't sure if Julie deserved to find that kind of love after everything she had done, but at the same time, Julie was young. She still had time to redeem herself in this life, if she decided to change.

"And I have Draven to fall in love with me. If I do what he asks, then he'll see my worth. Even if I have to work for it, he'll look at me the way Caulder looks at her, which means I have to take her out." She pointed her dagger at Harper, and her hand was shaking like crazy. She was scared and unsure, which meant we still had a chance, but I was losing her.

"You're not a murderer," I quickly said. "You're a lot of things, but a murderer isn't one of them. If you kill Harper, there's no going back." My head started spinning again, and I had to stop talking. I squeezed my eyes shut and took a few deep breaths. "You don't know what I am," Julie said. She took a few more steps towards Harper.

"Don't do this," Harper said, when she realized I was struggling. "Don't throw your life away because of a grudge."

"Shut up. Shut up. Shut up!" Julie practically screamed. Her seams were tearing apart, and her voice cracked as she yelled at Harper. "Don't tell me what to do with you!"

The dizziness subsided for a moment, and when I opened my eyes again, Julie was rushing towards Harper. She had completely cracked. I lifted the rope up from around my waist and dove towards Julie. I grabbed her feet, knocking her to the ground. She dropped the dagger in the process, and it scattered a few feet away.

I tried to pin Julie down, but she kicked me off of her. I fell to the ground, and my dizziness quickly came back. I tried to grab Julie's leg, but the room was spinning, and I couldn't figure out exactly where she was.

"Remy!" Harper shouted. She pulled against the ropes, but she couldn't break free.

I focused on my breathing, trying to steady my vision. I had lost too much blood, and my breath felt shallow. My heart raced from the little effort I was making.

Julie dove and grabbed the dagger again. Then she grabbed my ankle and pulled me towards her. She crawled on top of me and sat on my hips. Normally, I would have swung my legs up and wrapped them around her waist to get free from her, but I couldn't get my body to move the way I wanted it to.

"Why are you like this?" Julie asked. Her voice cracked as she pointed the dagger at my face.

"Why am I like what?" I asked, not understanding what she was upset about.

"Why are you trying to get in my way?" she clarified.

"Because I don't think you are a murderer," I said. "I don't believe you would actually sink that low. You're better than that."

"Why? It's not like anyone cares about me anyway? Even my own parents don't care if I come home. I don't have any real friends. Caulder was the first guy who actually showed interest in me, and even that was short-lived. What's the big deal if I sink to that level? It's not like you actually care anyway." Tears were falling out of Julie's eyes now.

As I looked up at her, I saw her in a different light. I had always thought that she just liked being the center of attention, but now I realized that she was just lonely and trying to get attention in the only way she knew how.

"I do care. You're part of my pack, and I don't want anyone to feel like that," I said, hoping she believed me.

"Liar!" Julie raised the dagger, preparing to plunge it down. Her sanity was completely lost, and I had no doubt in my mind that she was prepared to kill me.
