The Fall Of Lucian
Chapter 25

Her heart almost leapt out of her chest when she heard those beautiful words, it was the first time Bardas had confessed to her that he loved her. And that gave him the confidence to express his feelings.

-I love you too, Bardas,” they both put their foreheads together and then seal their words with a k**s, “I was so scared because I felt rejected by my wolf, who didn’t know what he was doing. I’m so sorry,” he says, after the k**s.

-It’s okay, it’s all right. Now you know that you mean everything to me. My greatest treasure, and I want you to always keep that in mind, okay? -He looks down at her as he cups her cheeks in his hands.

-Okay,” she smiles, to which he closes his eyes for a moment and inhales deeply.

-You need to rest,” he says teasingly.

Since he began to smell her release her scent just to provoke him, it was natural for her to act that way.

-It’s uncontrollable,” he whispers against her lips.

-Adara,” he warns, “You’re in no condition to do anything, you’re still too weak.

-I feel fine,” she answers, biting her lips.

-No, wait…

But she had already grabbed him by his jacket and pulled him close to her body. Bardas fell on top of her while Adara kissed him frantically.

Her beta was filling her in on what had happened the night before with Deisy. The she-wolf listened attentively, but only one thing was on her mind, the human.

She wondered again and again if he had escaped, or if he had returned to the cell. But since no one mentioned anything about it to him, he figured he hadn’t escaped.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of Ria, who came out of the dungeon with several bloody towels in her hands. The young woman glances at her, but doesn’t stop. She looked straight ahead and continued to listen to the report.

He had not escaped.

A few minutes later, Deisy intercedes to Ria when the two are alone.

-What happened to the human? Is it bad?

-He lost a lot of b***d, but I was able to dress the wound and change his bandages. Last night he collapsed on his way out of the forest. I had a hard time cleaning up all the b***d he left all over the road without anyone noticing him.

-I don’t understand how he got away.

-I’ve heard that the guard moved from his post for a while, I imagine he took advantage of that moment to get away.

-I see.

She thought for a moment.

-My lady, I think the best thing to do is to get that human out of the cell. As long as he remains there, his wound will not heal. The dampness and mildew that the walls of that place harbour prevent rapid recovery.

-To what end do you propose such a thing?

-With two results, the first would be to find out what he would do when loose in the herd. And the other is that it is in our interest that he should get better so that he can travel and get away from here. I’m afraid to tell you, but if you send him on a trip today, he may die.

Deisy stares at Ria.

-No house will want to take him because of who he is.

-He can sleep in the house that’s under construction, it’s desolate, and only has one finished room. It will be for a short time, but at least it’s a clean place and his wound will heal.

She gets restless, even more so than her own wolf. Sometimes she thought that her human form reacted more intensely than her wolf. It was as if this human didn’t get her she-wolf’s attention, but her human part did.

Ria nods and leaves.

It didn’t suit him to be on the loose wherever he wanted, but it would put him to the test. If he tried to escape, he’d let him, but he’d have him tailed until he found out if he was up to something.

Both wolves were standing on top of a small, icy, rocky mountain, looking at what appeared to be a frozen lake.

-It looks a little dodgy, I don’t trust the thickness of that ice, Ethan.

-Lucian’s scent brought me here, he’s passed this way. And we have to follow him.

-We should go around the mountain, it would be less risky.

-It would take more time, Eren. And we don’t have him, we’ve been after him for days, that crazy witch won’t wait that long. On top of that, this mountain is getting denser and denser and food is pretty scarce.

Eren knew that, the closer they got to the top, the colder it got, the crueler it became and they could hardly catch anything to eat.

-All right, we’ll cross it,” says the king, unconvinced. But I’ll go first,” he makes an attempt to move forward.

-No, I’ll go first.

Ethan moves down the path, his paws sinking deep into the snow, making it difficult for him to walk. But he had to be careful if he didn’t want to make a false step. Eren followed close behind, keeping his guard up.

Lucian’s scent was becoming more and more present, everything indicated that he had crossed that lake, but the curious thing was that he was letting himself be followed.

Ethan stops at the beginning of the frozen lake and begins to smell the atmosphere. He was on the other side of the lake. The black wolf sharpens his gaze and catches a glimpse of his companion out of the corner of his eye.

-He’s on the other side, it’s like he’s waiting for us,” the albino wolf focuses on the only path ahead of them.

-It’s a trap, I know.

-It definitely is. What do we do?

-We move forward and go after it.

The wolves growl, the strong breeze hits their bodies, but it doesn’t even move them.

-He steps where I step.

Ethan ventured to go first, with one paw he stepped on the ice, but it didn’t crackle. It gave him the confidence to move forward slowly, keeping his wits about him. Eren followed close behind.

The alphas continued to walk along the icy path, until Ethan felt the ground crackle. He looked at the ground and saw a small crack, then looked ahead. They had to move forward.

-We should take a little detour, Eren.

-All right.

Ethan was the first to take the plunge, carefully rounding the fragile side and moving along the rougher path. So far so good, and it was only a short distance to the mainland.

-It was very close, Eren.

But then, before the king could respond, Ethan hears the sound of cracking ice behind him. By the time he turned around, Eren was sinking into the freezing water.

Ethan runs to the edge of the hole and sees the wolf trying to climb onto the hard part, but it breaks every time he puts his paws on it.

-Eren, swim to this side, it’s harder.

-My paws are freezing.

The alpha began to worry about his friend, frozen water was a wolf’s worst enemy. He could easily freeze to death in a matter of seconds.

-Come on, swim buddy.

The wolf listened, but he was swimming with considerable difficulty. By the time he got to the side where Ethan was, he tried to climb onto the ice; it was actually harder on that side, but it was too high to climb without help.

-Ethan, I-I’m… I’m freezing,” he heard him stutter.

In desperation, Ethan grabs his friend by the neck and ends up biting him to help him out of the hole he was in. But suddenly, Ethan receives a strong blow to his side that ends up throwing him far away from where he was.

For a moment, he knew nothing of Eren, in the middle of his daze the wolf stands up and shakes his head to the side. When he comes to his senses, he realises what has happened.

-Your friend will freeze to death and there is nothing you can do for him.

Lucian stood in front of him in his wolf form, while Eren seemed unconscious. At least he managed to get him out of the water, however he needed to warm up fast.

-Eren, Eren, wake up! -He spoke to him, keeping their conversation private, but the wolf was unresponsive. His mind was blank. “Don’t go back to your human form, you’ll freeze to death. Hold on my friend.”

-It’s no use talking to him in secret, he won’t wake up.

The albino wolf walked over to his friend, his intentions were to return him to the water. But the alpha would not allow it.

Ethan ran to him, if he was going to die, at least he would defend his king. He was sure Eren would find a way to save his wife. But that bastard Lucian would die then and there.

Lucian, seeing Ethan rushing towards him, forgot his attempts to assassinate the alpha king and confronted the blue moon alpha. He did the same by running in the same direction as Ethan and the two wolves met almost airborne.

The sharp teeth of each snapped into the other’s neck, and with that bite, they fell together onto the ice, which fortunately did not break. They rolled around on it, biting and clawing at each other with their paws.

The ice on the ground was beginning to turn red, but they didn’t stop. They kept biting and hurting each other more and more.

On Ethan’s side, he felt no pain, he didn’t know if it was from the cold of the ground or the adrenaline coursing through his veins. The only thing on his mind was to finish this wolf once and for all.

At one point, Ethan had the advantage of having Lucian on the ground. The black wolf manages to get down on all fours while holding his prey by the neck with his huge teeth.

-This is the end of it,” Ethan growls.

-I don’t think so, Ethan,” the wolf growls, trying to break free. I know why you’re hunting me, she asked you to. But it won’t work for you to bring my corpse to her feet, because she’ll betray you.

-What are you talking about? -The alpha squeezes tighter.

-The witch will not comply, and only I know a way to make her do what you want. There is only one method, and she will keep her promise and not attempt against you.

-Why should I believe you?

-Because my power grew because of her.

Lucian kicks Ethan and bites his spine with such force that he knocks the wolf to the ground. The white wolf shakes its muzzle and licks Ethan’s b***d at the same time.

-I can’t die that easy, blue moon alpha, because I made a deal with that witch. And a weak wolf like you cannot destroy me.
