Felicity

POV

I was taken aback by Maximus' sudden outburst. "What do you mean, you know the traitor?" I asked, confusion written all over my face.

"I mean exactly that," Maximus replied, his voice low and threatening. "Someone among us has been feeding information to the Melezo men. How else would they find us every single time?" "But how do you know who it is?" Ava questioned, her eyes flickering with suspicion.

"I have my suspicions," Maximus replied. "I noticed one of our companions was acting strange before we left. He was being overly friendly with the enemy and was constantly disappearing from our camp at night." Silence descended upon us as we all contemplated Maximus' words. None of us had any idea who the traitor could be. We had all fought countless battles side by side. How could one of us betray the rest? "Maximus, are you sure about this?" Agent Kim asked, her voice wavering slightly.

"I'm positive," Maximus replied firmly.

Kyle turned to Maximus and asked, "Since you know who the traitor is, can you please give us the name?"

Maximus took a deep breath before replying, "The traitor is Agent Brown."

We all looked at each other in shock. Agent Brown had been with our team for years, and we never suspected him of being a traitor.

"I'm sorry, Maximus, but that's impossible," I said, shaking my head. "I can't believe you would accuse Agent Brown without any evidence."

Maximus tried to convince me, but I wasn't budging. Even Agent Brown himself was scandalized by the accusation. "I didn't imagine such a thing from you, Maximus. You disappoint me," he said.

Adrian was furious. "How do we know that it's not you, Maximus? By accusing Agent Brown, you're just trying to divert suspicion from yourself!"

Maximus sighed. "I understand your doubts, but trust me, I have evidence. Agent Brown is the traitor."

Adrian's frustration was palpable. "Maximus, you're not giving us anything concrete. Just words and accusations. What's to say you didn't send that letter to Titus to give away our position at Alpha Melezo? You're the only one who benefits from this!" Maximus shook his head, exasperated. "I understand that it looks bad for me, but please, you have to believe me. I have evidence that it was Agent Brown."

Kyle joined in, his voice filled with suspicion. "Maximus, we know you have connections with the enemy. How do we know that Agent Brown isn't just a pawn you're using to throw us off your trail?"

Maximus let out a frustrated breath. "I don't have connections with the enemy! I'm loyal to this team, to our mission!"

Adrian wasn't buying it. "You expect us to just take your word for it? You're not giving us any proof or evidence. It's all just hearsay."

Maximus stood up, his expression hardened. "I have proof, but it's not something I can just show you. It's not concrete."

Kyle scoffed. "Of course it is. Convenient excuse."

Maximus tried to reason with them. "Look, I know it's hard to trust me right now, but you have to understand that I'm not the traitor. Agent Brown is. Please, just trust me on this."

But I couldn't ignore the nagging doubts in the back of my mind. "Max, I helped you write that letter to Titus. How do I know you didn't change anything and give away our position?"

Maximus looked at me, pleading with his eyes. "You know me, please. I would never do something like that. Trust me."

But I couldn't bring myself to believe him. I loved him, but I couldn't stand the possibility of him being the traitor.

Adrian paced back-and-forth, frustration and anger etched on his face.

"I told you all from the beginning that Maximus was a traitor, a spy, and a sneak, but nobody believed me," Adrian said, gritting his teeth.

"So, what are the consequences of not believing you?" Kim said.

"Now, we're stuck in this mess. Maximus sold us out to the enemy, and we don't even know how or when they're going to attack us."

Adrian's words hung heavy in the air, leaving everyone stunned and silent for a moment, before the others erupted into a fury of accusations and anger directed towards Maximus. Ava, who had always been the most vocal and passionate amongst the group, screamed at Maximus with tears streaming down her face.

"I trusted you! How could you do this to us? To Felicity?" she shouted.

Maximus stood there, trying to defend himself against the onslaught of accusations being hurled at him. "I swear I didn't betray anyone! I just wanted to help-"

"Help?" Adrian interrupted, "By spying on us and sneaking around behind our backs?"

The other companions shouted in agreement, their voices merging into a cacophony of anger and disappointment. My baby's cries added to the chaos, and I frantically tried to calm her down as I felt tears streaming down my own face. "Everyone, please!" I cried out, my voice cracking with emotion. "We need to stay calm and figure this out together."

But my words went unheard as the others continued to yell at Maximus, their grievances pouring out with every word. It wasn't until I screamed for them all to shut up that they finally fell silent, including my baby.

"I asked you guys to stop arguing, it's not going to get us anywhere," I said, trying to calm everyone down.

"Who died and made you the boss?" Kyle snapped back at me.

"Guys, let's just listen to what Maximus has to say," Ava said, trying to diffuse the situation.

"Thank you, Ava," Maximus said, nodding his head. "I have reason to believe that Agent Brown is the culprit."

"What reason?" Kyle asked, rolling his eyes.

"Every time it was Agent Brown's turn to put out the campfire, he would conveniently forget," Maximus explained. "I think he was leaving clues for whoever was trying to catch us." Everyone burst out laughing.

"Oh, come on, Max," Adrian said, shaking his head. "That's ridiculous."

"It's not ridiculous," Maximus insisted. "I've been paying attention to all the little things, and it all adds up."

"I have to agree with Maximus," I interjected. "I've caught Agent Brown doing things he shouldn't be doing twice now, like leaving crumbs all over the place."

"That doesn't mean he's the one trying to catch us," Kyle argued. "It could be anyone."

"Maybe so, but I think we should keep a closer eye on Agent Brown," I said.

Suddenly, Maximus advanced towards Agent Brown and placed himself behind him.

"What are you doing?" Adrian asked, confused.

"I'm going to prove my theory," Maximus said, taking a purse out of Agent Brown's pocket.

Agent Brown's face turned pale, and everyone else looked shocked.

I could feel the tension between us rising. Before we could say anything, Maximus poured the contents of the purse on the floor, and thousands of moonstone pieces fell on the basement floor.

"I'm sorry, Agent Brown, but I had to be sure," Maximus said, holding up the purse. "This looks like something a spy would carry around."

"I can explain!" Agent Brown protested.

We were all shocked. "What the hell is going on?" Kyle shouted, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, explain yourself, Maximus!" Adrian added.

Agent Brown, Kyle, and Adrian started shouting, saying that it was Maximus who had placed the purse in Agent Brown's pocket so that we would believe that Agent Brown was the traitor. "Why would he take the money and put it in his pocket?" Adrian asked rhetorically.

I found their reasoning logical, but I couldn't believe that Maximus would do something like that. Maximus turned to me to defend him, "Please, you have to believe me. I didn't do it," he begged.

But the others were yelling at me not to be naive and not to be fooled by Maximus. "You're blinded by your love for him," Kyle said, shaking his head.

I was in a dilemma. I wanted to believe Maximus, but at the same time, I couldn't believe that he would do something so manipulative.

The situation had gone from bad to worse.

Suddenly, we heard noises outside, and we all turned around to find ourselves surrounded by about twenty armed men from Alpha Melezo. Panic set in as we realized that we had been betrayed and our location had been given away.

"Looks like we have a surprise for you," a tall, muscular man with a scar across his cheek said as he approached us. "We've been waiting for you." Maximus stepped forward, his hand on his sword. "You won't get away with this," he said, his voice shaking with anger.

The man laughed. "Oh, we already have," he replied. "And now, we have you all right where we want you."

Ava clutched her baby tightly, tears streaming down her face. "What are you going to do to us?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The man sneered. "We have orders to bring you all back to Alpha Melezo. But as for what happens after that, well, that's up to our leader." Maximus glared at the man. "Who is your leader?" he demanded.

The man grinned. "You'll find out soon enough," he replied.

As we were being tied up, Maximus kept trying to convince me that he was not the traitor. "Please, Felicity, you have to believe me," he pleaded.

But I couldn't bring myself to trust him anymore. "I don't know what to believe anymore," I replied, tears streaming down my face.

Kyle and Adrian were still yelling at me, telling me not to trust Maximus. "He's the one who sold us out!" Adrian shouted.

Maximus tried to defend himself, but it was too late. We were all tied up and at the mercy of our captors.

As we were being led away, I couldn't help but think about what had happened. How could one of us betray the rest? And how had we not noticed anything until it was too late?

The journey back to Alpha Melezo was long and grueling. We were all exhausted and hungry, but none of us dared to complain. We had no idea what awaited us when we arrived.
