The Rise of a Master: It Starts With Rejection -
With Husband 681
Chapter 681
Without warning, the middle-aged man struck a palm through the air toward Felix.
Caught off guard, Felix barely had time to raise his arms to block. The impact sent him, chair and all, staggering several feet back with a loud thud.
Blood spurted from Felix's mouth, and his face turned ashen.
"Felix!" Melissa cried out in panic, rushing toward him. The middle-aged man, however, didn't even flinch. He simply turned around and left, making no further moves.
"I'm fine. I don't think he was trying to kill me," Felix said, shooting Melissa a meaningful glance as he spoke.
Was he telling her to keep quiet? Feeling confused, Melissa said, "Despite the situation, you're still worried about me saying too much?
"Are we just going to let this slide? Call the police!" she suggested, trying to play along, even if she didn't fully understand his intent. "There's no need for that. Just help me sit down," Felix replied.
A street away, Asher and Aiden sat in the back seat of a car. The middle-aged man from before was now standing beside the vehicle.
"It's confirmed, Mr. Aiden," the man reported. 'Felix is, at most, at the Aetherial Realm. There's no way he's at the Oceanus Realm's level." When Aiden closed his eyes, Asher commanded the driver to leave.
As the car pulled away, Asher turned to his brother. "Aiden, that old man was trying to use us to get rid of Felix. Thank goodness you didn't believe him."
When Aiden didn't respond, Asher pressed on, unwilling to let it go. "What if he had photos or something more concrete? Would you have believed him then?"
Aiden opened his eyes and reached out to pat Asher on the head. "Everything can be fabricated. I only trust my own judgment. Let's go home."
Back at the clinic, over an hour had passed. Melissa suddenly noticed the color returning to Felix's face. His previously pale complexion now looked completely normal. "You were faking it just now?" she exclaimed in shock.
Felix nodded. "Yes, that man was only testing me. He didn't have any real intention to kill." Melissa was taken aback but quickly pieced it together.
"I knew it! You're in the Oceanus Realm too. Even if you were caught off guard, there was you no way a hit from someone in the same realm would injure you like that, But how did
Chapter 601
know he wasn't serious?"
Felix didn't seem eager to explain further. Annoyed, Melissa pouted, muttered something about skipping work to go shopping, and stormed out.
The truth was, when Felix left his house that morning, he had found a note slipped under his door. It only had a few words. "It's a test," it said.
At the time, he had no idea what it meant. It wasn't until the middle-aged man attacked him and Felix felt the lack of killing intent in his strike that he understood the message.
He had no idea who was helping him or who had sent someone to test him. However, if it meant the situation could be resolved so easily that would certainly be better than wasting his time and energy investigating. Melissa didn't return for the rest of the day. After closing up the clinic, Felix cleaned up and locked the door. That was when he saw Nelly waiting outside, holding a pack of cold pasta salad.
"My mom made this. I want you to try it and tell me if it's different from before," she said.
A few nights ago, after tasting Nelly's cold pasta salad, Felix had casually complimented it in passing. Now, here she was again, bringing him more.
He could tell Nelly wasn't romantically interested in him. This was just her way of making up for the Huxley incident and expressing gratitude for the bonus she had received after the apartment deal. "Sure, I'll let you know what I think after I try it" Felix replied with a smile.
Instead of heading home, Felix went straight to a high-end restaurant in Gray City. Clement had reserved a table, insisting on making up for not hosting Felix properly the night before.
Most people might have regarded hosting Felix as an obligation, but for Clement and Willow, it was an opportunity they couldn't pass up.
When he walked into the private dining room, he was surprised to see Queenie, his new neighbor, there too.
"Dr. Zeller, let me introduce you-"Willow began, but Queenie cut her off with a smile.
"No need for introductions. We're neighbors. Of course, we know each other. Funnily enough, I took my niece to the nearest clinic today-Tranquil Clinic. Wouldn't you know it? Dr. Zeller is the owner.
