Chapter 49

Niyole POV

It’s been a month since I last saw my mate. I knew I was supposed to be back a little later, but I had to wrap things up quickly to see her.

“Alpha, what are we going to do about the merger tomorrow? Why don’t you just wait till after the contract display? It won’t look good if you are not present.” Chester tried to convince me to stay back a little.

“Then should I assume I have no use for you as my beta? Is my presence that important that my right hand man has no right to fill in for me? You know it’s just a formality. After all, the contract had been signed. I don’t know why they are hosting a party all in the name of display.” I said, looking impatient.

Chester wanted to say something, but I stopped him,” Have mercy on me, man. I haven’t seen her for more than one month and you want me to stay back for some lousy party that old man is throwing? You know he is trying to set me up with his daughter. I just don’t want to point in the wrong direction. I already have Koko.”

“Yeah. It’s good. Keep rubbing it in my face. But don’t worry I will have mine soon too.” Chester said, shaking his head.

I just grinned and started packing up. I needed to move this night so I could arrive in the morning of the next day.

“Oh, did you know that Scarlett has been in the pack since you left?” Chester asked.

“Yeah. She brought the enlisted warrior of their pack. I think the training will begin in a week. Laci’s mate would have sorted that out already. I think they will start their training soon.” I replied.

“Yeah. I think so too. Do you think Henry would come too?” He asked.

“Maybe. After all, they are like two peas in a pod. I don’t even know if they became mates. Do you think they did?” I asked, watching his expression.

“They didn’t. The last time I talked to Henry, he was still as free as a bird, just like me. And Scarlett was also free too. Do you think she is waiting for you?” He asked, grinning.

I raised my brow,”Don’t you think your question is a bit far-fetched? And how did you know they didn’t end up as mates? They hardly come to the pack.”

“It’s… it’s easy to know. After all, I am your beta. I need to be versatile and know everything. Just like how I know Scarlett is only smitten with you.”

I replied to him, “Even if she was hoping to be with me, she must have heard about Koko. She would have backed off.”

“I guess. But then again, anything can happen around Scarlett.” Chester said, smiling.

“Are you trying to tell me that I might actually fall for her?” I asked, looking at him as if he was delirious.

“Why not? She is beautiful, curvy and intelligent. I even heard that she had been honing her prowess for the past two years. You might actually like her.” He said, his eyes glittering.

“Why do I feel that you love her?” I suddenly said.

He gulped down the wine in his mouth a bit faster and he started coughing. “Easy buddy. You don’t have to die yet. You still need to attend the contract display in my stead.”

“F**k you, Niyol!” He said, glaring at me.

“Not interested in men. Besides, I am strictly a Koko product now.” I told him, grinning widely.

He wanted to say something, but then he just shut up instead. Did he actually think I wouldn’t know he had been waiting for Scarlett all these years? I even knew how he secretly went to see her in the human realm.

I think when I got home, I really should make sure I gave Scarlett a good lesson. She needed to know Chester’s feelings for her.

I turned to him and asked,” Do you want me to put in a word for you? I could talk to her and probably put her on the right track. I just think that with the pace both of you are going, one of you is going to end up unmarried!”

“No, don’t. I will tell her when we get back. I will come back as soon as I finish the work here. When I am back, I won’t let her go this time around.” Chester replied.

“And what if she has someone else in mind? I know I told you she is not worth it, but since your heart still pumps for her, I would gladly accept her.” I told him.

He just looked at me and smiled. “Thanks man. I was just hesitant these years because I thought she was still in love with you, but after she didn’t make any attempt to come back to you, I decided to brave up.”

“Alright, that’s the spirit! At least, I will get your old man out of my back!” I said, closing my luggage.

“I will get the guard to take this to the car. Aren’t you taking your dinner before leaving? You will need strength tomorrow morning,” he said, winking.

“Strength for what?” I asked, feigning ignorance.

“To keep strong for tomorrow’s meeting with the enlisted warriors. Or did you think I meant something else? Do you want the strength for something else?” He asked, his tone teasing.

“Shut the hell up. Singles like you would never understand the feeling of staying away!” I told him, rolling my eyes.

He just laughed and called a guard who came in to take my suitcase. Of course, I wasn’t just going to leave like that.

I sure needed to eat first!

I had planned to get to the palace very early so I can have breakfast with Koko but there was some slight mishap along the way, so I got delayed. I was very angry that I was going to miss having breakfast with her, but then I was happy I would be seeing her finally.

Nevertheless, I was very enthusiastic when the car finally pulled up at the entrance of the palace. I tried to control my excitement so that my servants wouldn’t notice, but even I knew I was doing a bad job!

“Welcome, your majesty!” My Butler came forward with a bow. My eyes were searching for her, but I couldn’t find her.

The butler must have noticed my searching eyes because he immediately replied, “Your majesty, Miss must have taken a walk this morning. She had been feeling stuffy lately.”

“Oh! Alright. Get my bath ready and also don’t tell her that I am back yet. Just let me know once she is back from her walk.” I instructed before walking inside.

Although I wanted to see her badly, I think I needed a bath more. We had been driving all night long without stopping and the road had been so dusty.

When I got to the door of my chamber, I lingered a little in front of her room. I think I should get the executives ready for her coronation as the Luna. I hate sharing separate rooms from her.

I want to always have access to her anytime without a door barrier. I would get Laci to get her ready for the coronation, after all the whole pack already knows she is my mate.

It’s just for me to announce her as Luna to give her the right status by my side.

There was also one thing that was bothering my mind. It was her wolf. I wonder why it remained silent after that day it helped me. What could be the problem? What was keeping it silent?

I really wanted to know about her wolf and see if there was any way to keep it out like every other wolf.

The servants finished setting up the bath and I went for a quick refreshing shower. Immediately I finished with the shower, I got dressed and was waiting for my Butler.

She should have been back by now, right? So what’s keeping her?

There was a knock on my door and my Butler came in with an anxious look on his face.

“Your…majesty,” he stuttered.

“Why are you so anxious and why is Koko still not back?” I asked.

“That’s what I came to report. I sent the servants to check at the garden she usually rests in but they can’t find her,” he said, looking worried.

“What do you mean, you can’t find her? Maybe she had gone back to her room” I said, getting up to go to the opposite room.

“She is not there either, your majesty,” he said.

“Then check the palace and the surroundings and also send someone to Laci’s place. Maybe she went to meet her.”

“I am afraid not, your majesty. She had not stepped out of the palace since the incident at the supermarket where she was…” my Butler was saying before he stopped.

“Where she was what?” I roared at him.

What the f**k had happened in just one month of leaving my mate alone?
