Twice Rejected
Chapter 58

Chester’s POV

I watched as Juliana remained calm all through. She didn’t say much except when Niyol asked her something. But I noticed she was looking at Scarlett from time to time.

It wasn’t too obvious, but I noticed it. I had known her long enough to know when Juliana was brewing some trouble.

She was certainly looking for trouble. I just hoped she doesn’t cause too much trouble.

“Thanks Scarlett. I think I am much better. I don’t want to drain you with my problems. Yesterday had taken lots of my time and energy. I think I am still going to spend more time till I find my mate.” Niyol said, forcing a smile.

“I will always be here to help, Niyol. Just let me know how I am going to be of help and I will gladly do it. You don’t have to suffer alone. Even if Koko is not…”

“She will be found… alive. She made me a promise and I trust her. She will never break that promise.” Niyol cuts her off, his aura changing for a second.

“Sorry, Niyole. I… I didn’t mean it that way. I am just concerned about your health and I hope you don’t drain yourself over this issue.” Scarlett said, biting her lips while looking down.

Then Juliana spoke up, a smirk on her face,” Your majesty, can I have full access over this case? I mean, am I allowed to question anyone? From the highest to lowest even as far as close friends and… threats?”

I squinted my eyes at Juliana. I wonder what this brat was up to this time. I hated when she had a smirk on her face or a grin that seemed attractive yet dangerous.

“Of course. I have heard a lot about you from my private investigators. Although, I didn’t expect you to look so… s3xy. Pardon me, Chester.” Niyol said, smiling.

I bet that would be the first time he was smiling since the news of Koko. I had been looking at him since I came. He looked drained and pale as if he was passing through some kind of pain.

I will forgive him again and again if that would make him smile more.

But why was he so weak and pale? This wasn’t the Niyol I know. I wanted to ask him what was wrong because I was getting really anxious.

So I sent him a mind link, “Dude, you look pale. What’s wrong? Is it because of Koko?”

“We will talk when we are alone,” he simply said before cutting the link.

I decided to bite down on my curiosity and wait till he was ready to talk. There must be a reason he was looking like that. What did he go through just within that one day of Koko’s disappearance?

“Are you serious, your majesty? I am nowhere near s3xy. Infact, someone I know repeatedly called me ugly these past few hours that I was beginning to have lack of self confidence.” Juliana said, smiling and casting suggestive glances at him.

I knew she was talking about me but I decided not to answer her yet. She must be enjoying herself, right? I promise to get back at her.

But then I noticed she was glancing at Scarlett also, trying to read her expression. Surprisingly, Scarlett looked calm.

I mean too calm.

I knew Scarlett. Once she remained calm, just know she was about to do something big or she had already done it.

“Well, I saw your portfolio. I can swear you are nothing like your picture. Though there are resemblances, but you look like a s3xy version of yourself compared to the one on the portfolio.” Niyol praised her.

Somehow, I felt jealous listening to Niyole calling her s3xy and she was laughing or was it chuckling at his words? I swear if Niyol wasn’t the Alpha, I would have grabbed him by the collar and…

Aiish! What right do I have to be acting all emotional towards her? That night was a mistake. Even though we weren’t related, I still felt a little guilty to be having feelings towards her. That was why I tried to lock it away.

Besides, I had been faithfully in love with Scarlett.

“Yeah. I guess. I am usually dressed like that when I want to work. But I am like this whenever I’m off work. You know, in the province, the investigator’s office is crammed with male workers. We are just three women. So to avoid unnecessary attention, we ladies decided to be the nerd version of ourselves!” Juliana explained.

Ohhh.. is that so? That’s good. At least she won’t have too many admirers. I suddenly felt happy again.

Scarlett finally stood up, as she bowed to Niyol. “I think I will be heading home for now. I will come visiting again.”

“Miss Scarlett, are you familiar with Miss Koko? Like if you interact often with her?” Juliana suddenly asked.

“Familiar? I can’t say either I was or I wasn’t. We rarely had contact with each other. That’s because I haven’t known her for long before she… I mean before she was kidnapped.” Scarlett answered.

“Oh! I thought you were. Anyways, it’s nice knowing you. I hope we can become a little closer by the time I am here. I really don’t know anywhere here.” Juliana said, smiling.

“I would love to. I also don’t have any friends apart from Niyol, Chester and Henry.” she said.

“Henry? That’s a nice name. I hope he is as handsome as his name?” Juliana said, looking at me.

I wonder what was wrong with her this morning. Why was she so flirty? Was this how she carry out her investigation?

Just as we were talking and Scarlett was preparing to leave, the chamber door opened and Laci walked in with a worried expression.

“Niyol, are you better now? Have you eaten? Is your head still hurting? Should I…” Laci started raining questions at poor Niyol immediately as she entered the chambers.

“Laci, I am fine. Sometimes I wonder if you are my sister or mother. You are not even an older sister!” Niyole complained.

“I don’t need to be one to cater for my brother. I just hope Koko comes soon so she can take care of your lazy as*s!” Laci said, touching Niyol’s head. “Since you still have such fiery tongue, it means you are okay.”

We watched as the siblings displayed their emotions without a care about those in the room. I wished I had a sister like Laci. It’s good when you have someone who always got your back.

“I am leaving, Niyol.” Scarlett said, a little edgy.

Then she turned around and left briskly, without turning back at all!

After she left, Laci finally noticed the extra person by my side. She looked at Juliana curiously and with a smile on her face.

She raised her brows, waiting for an explanation from me, of course. But before I could say anything, Juliana already walked up to her.

Juliana immediately bowed to her as she introduced herself, “You must be Princess Laci. I am Miss Juliana Roberts, your highness.”

“Oh! Such a pretty name. Are you his girlfriend?” Laci asked, pointing at him.

Such a blunt and direct question. So typical of Laci!

I didn’t wait for Juliana to speak before I cut in, looking away from Juliana, “Laci, does it matter who she is?”

“Of course not! I just like her though, but I am so confused right now. I wish Koko had been able to use the mind link, we would have been able to track her down.” Laci lamented.

Juliana just smirked before she finally walked up to Alpha Niyol.” About that… I mean the girl called Scarlett, are you very familiar with her?”

“Yes. She is my childhood friend along with Chester.”

“She likes you, right? Has she ever come in contact with Koko?”

“As for that question, I really don’t know much about it because she came when I was away from town. But I think their relationship was cordial since she knew a little about Koko.” Niyole said.

Laci then cuts in. “Well, at first it wasn’t. In fact, she was really something else towards Koko. I had to step in several times.”

Everyone turned to look at Laci.

Then Juliana asked again, “You mean she was against Koko at first? Did they meet so often?”

Laci thought for a while before she answered, “We can say they do, because Scarlett has been coming to the palace every single day since Niyol left. The last time she had an encounter with Koko was in her room. She really cursed Koko a lot and she threatened to get her out. I was so angry that I had it bad with her.”

“Oh! And yes, she was friends with my mother before they suddenly grew apart. The servants always saw them together gossipping about Koko before she withdrew from my mother.”

Juliana was lost in thought, “Does Koko have any friends?”

“Friends? No, she doesn’t have friends, apart from me. She really isn’t the outgoing type.”

“No one in the past month or so? It could be someone she communicate with from time to time.”

Laci thought for a while before replying, “I remember. She was friends with Henry, Niyol’s childhood friend. He has been with her these past few days after he defended her at the supermarket.”

“Oh.. Henry, that’s interesting. Your majesty, can I take a look at Koko’s room? We can all go together. It’s likely that we might find a clue or two from there.” Juliana said.

Niyol nodded as he led the way. I walked up to him and whispered softly, “If you are not up to the task, you can just wait for us here.”

He shook his head, “No. I am okay. I want to be there in every process involving this case as much as I can.”

“Alright. Let’s go then.”

We left his chamber to the room opposite where Koko had been staying before she was kidnapped.

“You guys can check to see if there is anything that seems unusual in the room. And be careful not to remove things unnecessarily. Just tell me when you see anything suspicious.” Juliana said.

Without wasting much time, we delve into searching the room. There was nothing much to look at.

But we kept searching until I sensed a weird feeling from Niyol.

I turned to see his face turning pale.
