Twice Rejected
Chapter 79

Chester’s POV

“I knew it!” I exclaimed when I saw Julianna struggling with some people from afar. I had followed her from the palace to… wherever this place was.

She had been behaving strangely for some days now which got me worried. Niyol and Laci might not had noticed, but I have, because my eyes were always on her.

Sometimes, her phone would ring and she would excuse herself to answer the call. I knew Julianna too well. If she wanted to receive a call, she would purposely receive it close to me just to annoy me, but nowadays she was acting like she had something to hide and when Laci made mention of her having a guy in her life and the way she behaved that way, I became more suspicious of her.

I decided to start watching her closely from then and when I saw her rushing out of the palace today, I knew that there had to be an opportunity to finally discover what she was hiding from all of us. I waited for her to enter the car before entering mine and when she zoomed off, I followed suit.

“Damn! Since when did Julianna learn how to drive like this!” I hit the wheel of the car and followed her at top speed. I saw her turn right and into what seemed like a forest. What was she doing in a forest? Could she be the one responsible for Koko’s kidnap or what? I shook the thoughts off my head. She couldn’t be responsible.

I packed my car and followed her on foot since the road was a narrow one. If I followed her with the car, she would notice my presence. She parked her car and rushed out then snuck forward. I mingled with the leaves and followed her. I saw her talking to a guy and couldn’t understand it, but I felt slightly bad.

So, she was doing all that to meet a guy beside what looked like an abandoned Warehouse? But, if it was a date, would it be somewhere like this? Something was off.

I remained in the bush and watched her closely. She collected the guy’s phone and it looked like she was videoing something. Before I could close my eyes and open them, I saw her trying to run and someone grabbed her. I gasped and stood up. The other guy was struggling with them to release her as well. This could only mean trouble! I took to my heels, heading straight for them, but my heart broke immediately I got closer.

“Henry? Scarlett? What is going on here?” I asked.

Henry brought out a knife and placed it around Julianna’s neck.

“Halt! If you move an inch, I will slice her throat off.” He threatened and I stopped moving.

I couldn’t comprehend what was going on.

“What is happening? Why are you doing this, Henry?” I asked.

“Just shut up! No one gave you the right to talk. If you make any silly movements, we won’t spare her.” Scarlett said and I gasped.

It was then I remembered Julianna’s words. She had told me not to easily trust anyone and that she suspected that Scarlett was involved in Koko’s kidnap. That was when it all began to sink in. Henry and Scarlett were responsible.

“Scarlett, why would you do such a thing?” I asked her.

“A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get what she wants.” She answered.

“A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get what she wants.” She answered.

“By kidnapping an innocent woman? Where is your conscience?” I asked her.

I felt betrayed and disappointed. I remembered the time I defended her and called her a good person. I never knew she was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She is a wolf but who would have believed that she would do such a thing?

“Kidnap? I took her to teach her a lesson. Same way I’m going to teach this little woman with Henry. If you don’t want her head rolling on the ground right now, turn back and leave like nothing is happening here.” Scarlett said.

I looked at Julianna and she used her eyes to give me a signal to distract them. I nodded and signaled the other guy to get ready so as to collect the knife from Scarlett while I handled Henry.

“I don’t quite understand why you would kidnap Koko and threaten me with Julianna,” I said.

“Koko’s own is simple. I just want the Alpha all to myself. I wasn’t planning to kill her in any way. I only told her to take a huge sum of money, forget about the Alpha and disappear, that was all, but the stubborn cursed girl had the guts to reject my offer. I had to switch to the easiest way possible; killing her.” Scarlett laughed and I could feel my anger rise to the surface.

“That’s pure wickedness. I never knew you could be this heartless!” I yelled at her.

“You never knew me!” She yelled back. “Your childish crush never gave you the chance to know me, Chester. Do you think I like you? Is that why you thought I was a good person?”

The more she spoke, the more it felt like needles were being used to prick my heart one after the other.

“Enough!” I yelled which startled them, giving Julianna the opportunity to slip away from Henry’s grip and kick his groin. Henry fell to the floor in pain. The guy collected the knife from Scarlett, but she tried to run. I grabbed her and pinned her hands behind her back.

“It’s over for you now. Wait and see what the Alpha will do to the two of you.” I said and tied her down.

Two men rushed out of the room to fight us. Julianna dodged the punch of one of them and stabbed his leg with the knife she dragged from Henry. I took on the second one and kicked his chest, sending him to the floor immediately.

“They smell like humans,” I said.

“They are humans!” Julianna replied.

We rounded them up and tied them. I took my phone and called the police, giving them the address and urging them to come immediately.

“You can go now. Make sure you send all the evidence to my phone. I’ll call you when I need your services again. You can check your account when you’ve arrived home.” Julianna said to the guy. He just bowed and left.

“How did you find me?” Julianna asked after the guy left.

“I followed you.” I answered simply.

“Just like that or you found me suspicious?” She asked.

“Of course, I found you suspicious. Everything about you these previous days looked quite secretive and you were always sneaking out to answer phone calls. Today was worse so I made a mental note to always keep my eyes on you.” I answered.

“So you followed me here because you found me suspicious.” She sounded a bit disappointed. “But it was for the last. If you had not come, I wondered what would have happened to us.” She said and I was for once glad that she appreciated my effort without rubbing hers on my face first.

“They’re the ones responsible for Koko’s kidnap,” Julianna said.

“Yeah. I figured it out a few minutes ago. But you knew all these while, why didn’t you expose them? You had to endanger your life like this.” I scolded her.

“I wanted to get my facts right and also get solid evidence. You know the kind of world we’re in. If you don’t provide evidence to back up your claim, nobody will take you seriously.

I remember when I was telling Alpha Niyol and Laci that Henry is responsible, but they trusted these hoodlums too much and the only thing that can change their minds now is this evidence that I have gathered.” Julianna explained and I nodded.

“What about Koko?” I asked, glancing at the room. “Oh my gosh! Who did these?” I asked, staring at the pile of dead bodies in there.

“According to the men that are still alive, they said Koko shifted to her wolf form and killed those men and injured them then she escaped.” Julianna explained and I gasped.

“We have to find her,” I said.

“Let’s wait for the policemen to get here first,” Julianna said.

I bent down and looked at them. “I didn’t expect these from you two at all. The Alpha trusted both of you very well to the extent of leaving his own mate in your care, but what did you do? You just had to stab him at the back and kidnap his mate. That’s not all, you framed the Queen mother up and got her dethroned and worst of all, you tried to kill Koko?” I shook my head. “I pray you two rot in jail then continue in hell.”

Scarlett looked at me, but what she got in return was a deadly glare. I never expected this from her… from the two of them. What a betrayal!

The policemen soon arrived and picked them.

“Are you two okay?” The detective asked.

“Yes, we are fine.” Julianna answered.

“Lock them up! They’re involved in a kidnap case and need serious interrogation.” I ordered the police officers. They bowed and drove out of the place after marking the warehouse banned with a crime scene rope all over the place.

“Thank you for saving me today.” Julianna faced me and smiled.

“Nah, it was nothing. I was really worried. Please, don’t go off on your own like that next time. It is very dangerous. I understand that you’re an investigator, but you don’t have nine lives, okay?”

“Okay.” She smiled.

“Now, let’s go report to the Alpha then look for a way to find Koko.”
