Twice Rejected
Chapter 81

Koko’s POV

I came out of hiding and ran as fast as my weak legs could carry me. I didn’t know where I was going, but anywhere was better than here. If I remained, they might track me down and capture me again.

I was running out of breath, but I needed to keep moving. At least, if I kept running, I might find a village or something and look for help there.

I halted when I saw that night had come. It was not usually safe outside by this time, because of rogue wolves. Me getting captured by them would be worse. They’d kill me immediately if they set their eyes on me.

I used my eyes to scan the place and saw an oak tree. I sighed in relief and made my way there. As soon as I got to the tree, I hurried to the back and sat down there. The long grass should be able to hide me well till tomorrow morning. I touched my head and could feel that it was already hot. My fever was acting up again.

I was also thirsty and hungry. I sighed and looked around. I was grateful to the moon goddess for helping me to escape today. All I had to do was wait till tomorrow then look for a way out of here.

As I hid there, all I could think of was Niyol. He must be going through a lot, searching for me right now. If I knew the surroundings, I would have gone to meet him by myself. On a cold night like this one, he would have wrapped his hands around me to made me feel warm. He would have cuddled me and made me snuggle close to him.

He was the reason why I was still living. We both met at our most dire time and he was always by my side. He loved me when every other person hated me. He accepted me when I was rejected and made me feel like someone that had worth. He loved and cherished me even though I was different.

“I can’t wait to see you, Niyol. Be healthy and safe and I’ll come meet you.” I said, then I remembered my wolf.

“You haven’t talked to me, but you saved us today and I am grateful for that, but can you stop being silent at a time like this? This is when we really need each other. You’re making me feel like I am alone.” I said, but what I met was another silence. “I’ll wait till you talk to me then.” I said and closed my eyes.

I was running through the woods without looking back. All I could think of was a chance of survival. The men chasing me were closing in on me and I increased my pace. I was sure they died. Why are they suddenly after my life? I kept running and running, but it was a dead end. I turned but saw them advancing towards me. They grabbed my hand and made me fall on my knees.

“You think you’re smart, right?” One of them asked.

“Let me go!” I struggled with them.

“You are going nowhere. Today is your end so get ready to die.” Another of the men said.

Tears rolled down my eyes as I kept on struggling.

“Quit the struggle, you cursed wench! It will never help you. Nobody will ever love you! You’re a cursed witch and don’t deserve to live!” Henry snickered.

“No! Niyol loves me!” I yelled at them.

“Niyol doesn’t love you. He would never love a dark eye witch like you so don’t keep your hopes up. The only person Niyol loves and would like to be with me.” Scarlett said.

“No!” I yelled.

“Are you doubting me? Watch and see how I’ll get married to Niyol, become the Luna and bear him children right before your very eyes.” She said.

I shook my head to make her voice disappear, but it got louder.

“Just disappear! Niyol will never want you back. Look at how battered and bruised you are. He would never want someone as ugly as you. So, leave and never return.” Henry snapped at me and my tears rolled down nonstop.

“I will never leave!” I snapped back and they laughed.

“If you aren’t going to leave then prepare to meet your death!” Scarlett pulled me up from my knees and pushed me to the ground. She grabbed a knife from one of the men and buried it in my stomach. I screamed as I could feel life slowly draining from me.

“No!” I yelled and sprung up from where I laid. I was breathing heavily and my heart was pounding hard against my ribcage. I held my chest to stabilize my fast racing heart as I realized that it was all a nightmare.

“It’s only a nightmare. Niyol would never leave me for anyone. He loves me!” I assured myself. I wiped beads of sweat that had already gathered over my forehead and looked around.

The chirping of birds and sounds of other animals made me realize that it was already daybreak. I sat up and stretched my hands over my head, ignoring the sharp pain I felt all over my body.

I coughed and suddenly felt a lump in my throat. Hope it is not what I am thinking? Before I could think of anything else, it came to my mouth and I rushed to throw up. I used the back of my hand to wipe my mouth and went to sit down again. This confirms it! The fever, morning sickness and throwing up.

“I’m pregnant!” I yelled happily and held my stomach. Niyol will be overjoyed when he hears this news.

“I’m finally going to be a mother!” I smiled and rubbed my tummy.

I heard footsteps at the forefront and was happy that there was a passerby. Maybe, she would help me find a way out of here. I struggled to get up and rushed to meet her. It’s like she was coming to cut some leaves or look for fruits because I saw a knife and bowl in her hands.

“Hey!” I waved my hand to call her attention.

She turned and saw me. I could see shock and anxiety in her face.

“Miss Koko!” She exclaimed.

That was when I realized who she truly was. The smile on my face turned upside down.

“You!”

The servant’s POV

After delivering the letter to Koko, I ran away from the palace to avoid being suspected and executed or forced to bring out the truth. I hid somewhere in the pack for a while, but when I found out that Henry and Scarlett sent spies to look for me and kill me, I had to run for my life.

All I wanted was to move to another village and start a new life which I successfully did. I never knew that I would meet her here. Gosh! I would be so done for, If she found out that I was the one, the Alpha would track me down for sure.

“You!” I heard her cold voice resonating through my ears.

“Good morning, Miss Koko.” I bowed, not lifting my head up.

“So, after betraying your pack, you move to another village and expect to live happily while I suffer, right?” She asked me, but I remained quiet. “Tell me, how much was given to you to betray me in such a way?” she yelled at me.

“I don’t know what you are talking about. I was only sent to deliver the letter to you, nothing more.” I explained, hoping she would forget about it already. How did she even escape in the first place?

“Really? That excuse of yours isn’t convincing at all.” She glared at me.

I ruffled my hair as I thought about what to tell her next. I glanced at the knife in my hand and sighed. I had two choices in this. It is either to run away and forget this ever happened or to kill her.

If I ran away and the Alpha eventually finds her, she would expose me and he would definitely track me down and kill me. But if I kill her, then I could live and my secret would be safe, right? Yes! The only choice I had now was to kill her.

“I know it isn’t convincing because I did it. I was in on the plan all along.” I smirked and she looked taken aback.

I guess she didn’t expect me to answer her in such a manner.

“Why do you look surprised? Didn’t you accuse me just now?” I asked her and held firmly to the knife in my hand.

“Why?” She asked me, tears rolling down her cheeks. I wasn’t remorseful at all. She had suffered enough anyways. Why don’t I put an end to her misery.

“They offered me a huge sum of money to deliver the letter and disappear. What do you think?” I raised the knife up and she gasped. “If I kill you now then my secret is safe. You’re already weak so don’t even bother trying to fight back.” I dropped the bowl I was holding and lunged at her, but she dodged.

“Why are you doing this? The best you can do is plead for forgiveness.” She snapped at me.

“Your pride disgusts me!” I aimed for her stomach this time, but she dodged again and pushed me away.

“Well since you have shown me that you don’t deserve mercy, I’ll have to punish you.” She said and I could see her eyes turning yellow. I didn’t back off. It was either kill or get killed.
