His mom had always warned him not to take anything from strangers, and this pill looked suspiciously toxic.

He quickly covered his mouth and backed away, shaking his head vigorously.

“You’re not going to take it?” Moss narrowed his eyes, and his tone grew cold.

“It was made just for you.

You have to take it.

”

“I don’t want it!” Melon yelled, and he turned to run.

However, Moss was quicker.

He caught Melon easily and forced the pill into his mouth despite his frantic attempts to escape.

Melon was no match for an adult.

As the pill touched his lips, he froze for a second, tears starting to form in his eyes.

Was he going to die now? But he was only six years old!

This man, how could he claim to be his grandfather? He must have been lying!

No grandfather would poison his grandson.

Tears of anger and sadness streamed down Melon’s face as he looked up at Moss.

But Moss seemed pleased, even smiling as he watched Melon with the pill in his mouth before finally letting him go.

When Melon landed on his feet, the pill dissolved in his mouth, releasing a flavor of grape.

Melon sniffed, mentally bidding farewell to his parents, hoping to see them in another life.

He closed his eyes, let his tears flow, and braced for death.

“Why are you crying?” Moss said.

“The pill is not poisonous.

You told me you wanted to seem older, right? This pill will just make your voice sound more mature.

”

Melon opened his eyes, his expression twisted in confusion.

“What do you mean?” he asked.

To his astonishment, his voice now sounded like that of a mature young man.

He touched his throat in disbelief and made a few more sounds.

As he listened to his changed voice, discomfort grew, and he began to cover his ears.

“Uncultured,” Moss said scornfully, watching Melon.

Melon took his hands away from his ears and said in his new voice, “I’m only six years old.

It’s natural I don’t know as much as adults do.

”

“Weren’t you just saying you were half an adult?” Moss retorted.

Melon placed his hands on his hips and lifted his chin proudly.

“You take what kids say seriously? You’re really quite gullible for an adult.

”

Moss was rendered momentarily speechless.

After a bit more exchange with Melon, Moss grew weary of the debate with Melon and dismissed him with a wave, returning to his experiments.
