But who could possibly save her?

In this hellish place, everyone was a villain, conspiring to keep her trapped.

Fresh tears streamed down Sadie’s pallid face.

Darkness enveloped her world.

Without a phone, computer, or any electronic device to distract her, Sadie’s days blurred together in a monotonous haze of eating and sleeping.

Sometimes she shouted, hoping someone would talk to her.

Occasionally, she paced in circles around the small room, pretending it was a leisurely stroll.

Most of the time, however, she Lay motionless on the bed like a corpse, her mind wandering to kill the endless hours.

Sadie suddenly realized it was Christmas.

The revelation caused her eyes to well up once more.

Her birthday was at Christmas.

But who would know this? Who would care enough to say happy birthday to her now?

No one.

Sadie’s eyes brimmed with tears.

She suddenly thought of something and quickly wiped her tears away.

As she did, she noticed the back of her hand, dotted with needle marks.

Her once smooth, tender skin had given way to a network of visible veins.

Sadie’s mind drifted back to her life with the Anderson family and to the years later when she had been admired and praised as a star.

Back then, she had never realized just how blessed she had been.

She had been born into privilege, and everything she had seemed as natural as breathing.

If only she could turn back time.

Lost in her thoughts, Sadie didn’t notice the door creak open again.

At first, she had expected the black-clad bodyguards to storm in once more, but a flash of white caught her eye.

It was a nurse.

The nurse was here to give her another injection.

Sadie was used to this routine.

She remained still on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

But then, something suddenly dawned on her.

Only one nurse?

Sadie blinked, unsure if she was seeing things correctly.

She turned her head, moving sluggishly, and saw that there was indeed only one nurse today, not the usual group.

Her heart skipped a beat, pounding hard in her chest.

“Why are you alone?” Sadie asked, her pale lips quivering.

But the nurse, like the cold, unfeeling bodyguards, didn’t respond.

She simply let go of the trolley, took the infusion bottle and syringe, and approached Sadie.

Sadie’s heart fluttered with a mix of anxiety and hope.

She tried to steady herself, but her eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
